Firsts - piCture pOlish and Stamping

Helloooooo everyone! Today's post features some EXCITING things!
  1. piCture pOlish
  2. My first stamping attempt EVER
  3. ... piCture pOlish!!
I recently won a piCture pOlish giveaway from Alina's blog! After I woke up from my excited fainting spell, I had to decide what polishes I wanted. One choice was easy: WISTERIA! And that's what I'm showing you in today's mani.

Wisteria is a gorgeous vivid purple color. If I owned Illamasqua Jo'mina, I'd probably tell you here about how similar they are to each other. But alas, I do not. So no comparisons for you from this girl! You'll have to settle for my educated guess: that they are pretty darn similar.

The consistency of Wisteria was great. It was thick so it covered really nicely, but it wasn't gloopy or hard to work with in the slightest. I didn't get any weird globs or bubbles in the polish at all. Great, smooth, creamy finish.

Okay, now let me tell you a little story in the third person about stamping.

Once upon a time there was a nail blogger named Sarah. She loved all of the stamping that she had seen from other bloggers. So she bought the first Bundle Monster set on Amazon. She eagerly awaited its arrival, and when it finally arrived she tried to use it right away!

Her attempt was a massive failure. She was crushed! She had read the FAQs and everything! Why wasn't it working? She tried a few more times, only to keep failing, and eventually abandoned her stamping set for a few weeks.

Then she decided to try buying some other polishes that have been said to work great for stamping. Among those polishes was Wet N Wild Wild Shine in Black Creme. She filed her stamper a bit more with a coarser file. To her amazement, she finally could stamp! Her dog Chowder rejoiced, if by rejoiced you mean that he couldn't care less.

So yeah, that's my stamping story. Lots of failure leading up to a simple polish switch, and now it works great. Other polishes that work well for stamping include Sally Hansen Insta Dri in Whirlwind White and most metallic polishes, like the Color Club Foiled Collection (thanks to Rebecca for this information).

This stamp is from the first Bundle Monster set, plate BM17.

I know it's not the cleanest or straightest stamping attempt, but I don't think it's too bad for my first try! It has been suggested that I should not have chosen a French design for my first stamp mani but I liked this one so much that I went for it anyway. I REGRET NOTHING! :)

And really, it looks much neater from arm's length.

I think I'm a pretty fast learner so hopefully my stamping will improve even further pretty quickly! And keep an eye out for my other two piCture pOlishes in the future!

  7. This is really great for your first stamping try!! I am sure that given more practice, you will get WAY better than me since you are so much more talented at nail art than I am.!! I am actually doing a quick stamping tutorial that will post on Sunday-maybe it'll help?

  8. LOL Nice job, glad you had some stamping success! I'm afraid to go ahead and purchase a stamping kit because I think I might really let my freehand skills slip if I do!

  9. That's a great job! I still have yet to buy any stamps and I really need to! You've inspired me :-)

  10. Ok I'm impressed. I've been stamping for like 2 months and I still have a hell of a time getting the tip stamps straight! Good job! You are so creative on your own, I can't wait to see what you do with the stamps!!

I learned everything I know from stamping from Rebecca's blog too. She's so great. Most of the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri polishes are good for stamping. I use raspberry race, co-bolt blue, & presto pink to name a few. Right now my nails are stamped with antiquated from the foiled collection.

  12. This is stunning! I love that purple and you chose a great tip image to go with it. It's true that stamping tips is really difficult (I've been stamping for over a year and still can't do it!) but I think your attempt here is great!

  13. The I REGRET NOTHING saying was finally out of my head after months! Thanks for putting it back in, but I know you won't regret :P

It looks really good for your first attempt, I can't even do the french stamps without going the wrong direction! xD I have Konad and this one is on image plate m56 and nothing on that plate seems to work...

  15. Hehe, I love your stamping story! It sounds like my first experience, but I didn't touch mine for over a year after >.<

  16. Amazing for your first try! I couldn't even get it to pick up on mine, hahah. But now it's ok. Practise makes perfect.

Silver Sweep by Sally Hansen Insta Dry works amazing as well.

As for Black Creme, I get it to pick up but not transfer onto my nail :(

  19. Well done you! I think you've done a great job. I've been stamping for some time now and still find it a huge challenge to get them on straight. lol

  20. That's awesome, especially for a first try!! Your 'stamping story' sounds similar to mine, I was so frustrated the first several times I wanted to give up. Keep up the good work!

  22. Omg you have the dog called Chowder. That's fabulous! What breed?

  23. @Aly - Thank you! He is a poodle/bichon frise mix. He's apricot colored and quite a handsome little man. :)

  24. Love the color! I'm fairly new to stamping too and I really like it! If you ever get a chance to try A England polishes, let me tell you they are GREAT for stamping! I've been stockpiling a mental list of colors that work for stamping, so let me know if you need any help!

My usual tip-off is this: If it's a one-coater, it's almost always stamping polish. ^_^

  25. Wow!! I've just discovered your blog and I love all the things I've seen at the moment :D
Are you sure this is your first time? :D You have done it really well, my first time was a total disaster XD

  26. piCture pOlish is amazingggggggg :D I love them :D :D :D I love the colour and stamping! Thanks for the tip.. I have huge issues with Bundle Monster but not with Konad or any other Fauxnad plates... so I'm going to give them a go with the CC Foiled colours :D

  27. Can't wait to try stamping, too busy marbling right now though :)

  28. So refreshing to see someone who obviously has some experience with doing their own nails struggle a bit with stamping. I had a really bad first experience too, though in hindsight, it was my own fault. I got a set of Fauxnad plates and couldn't get anything to turn out decent. What a difference a REAL Konad plate and a stamping polish makes!!

I heard about your blog through Vampy Varnish and am looking forward to your take on all things nails! :D

  29. Racing nails! :D Love it! And congrats on winning! :)

  30. Love the polish and stamping, as for the 1st time it's an amazing result!! I'm glad the PP survived the whole long way to you :) Looking forward to see the other 2!!

  32. I've read that using an old gift card instead of the metal helps alot-for the scraping. It won't scratch the plate.

  33. This is awesome I like it that I wanna come beck on your blog for more information. Thanks for sharing.
