OPI Black Spotted is a highly coveted polish that, to the best of my knowledge, was (is?) only available in Sephora stores in France. I'm not even sure if it is still being sold anymore or if it popped up in other locations, but suffice to say it is not very easy to get. I definitely consider myself lucky to have been able to connect with someone who could get me a bottle!
This is one very thin coat of Spotted over an abstract brush stroke manicure using Orly Dayglow, Orly Melt Your Popsicle, Orly Skinny Dip, Orly Beach Cruiser, and Orly Fresh. Spotted was a bit finicky to apply, and even harder to clean up, as it didn't want to play nicely with the acetone. The other weird thing was that it sort of peeled off from the tips the next day, but that may be because I did a layer of topcoat before applying it.
Oddly enough, I think I preferred this manicure before adding the Spotted, at least in person. At arm's length, Spotted just looked kind of dark and muddled, not as oil slicked as it looks up close and in macro photographs.
I hope everyone had a fun and safe New Year, and here's to another year's worth of nails! :)
I'm glad you took the pre-Spotted pics, I love that look!
ReplyDeleteMe too! The pre-Spotted look is exciting and festive on its own!
Deleteamazing!
ReplyDeletei loved the way your mani looked pre-spotted!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's amazing! I love it :)
ReplyDeleteLove it without the OPI black thingy
ReplyDeleteLove both looks! :)
ReplyDeleteLove both looks! :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks SO different. Almost like two completely different mani's.
ReplyDeleteI do love the pre-spotted version!
that's amazing :D
ReplyDeleteOMG this is crazy beautiful!!! Absolutely love it! I wish OPI would have given Black Spotted a wider distribution :(
ReplyDeleteLoved both looks, but with the black spotted its different from everything else !
ReplyDeleteAmazing, as always, Sarah! I loved both looks.
ReplyDeleteI have OPI Spotted as well and I must say it's one of the worst polishes I have...a total rip off and doesn't last at all! Did you use SV/quick dry top coat over it? It lasts a little longer if you use regular TC or simply just clear polish.
ReplyDeleteInteresting, I just used SV. Will have to try with a different topcoat next time. Thankfully I usually don't wear polishes longer than a day anyway, hah.
DeleteI don't care much for Spotted, but it makes this mani look AMAZING (in macro mode as you say...)
ReplyDeleteThe most amazing nails I have even seen.
ReplyDeleteI find it amusing that in general people who have Spotted agree that yes, it's rare, it's stupidly expensive to find, that can't believe they have it, it's a pain in the butt, and doesn't generally look that good.
ReplyDeleteI will say I like how you used it but I can totally get what you're saying about it not looking good from a regular distance. I love the nail art base you did - those colors are pretty! So thanks for sharing~
Wow! this is so psychedellic and unique! I love it! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteCool look! I had the same problem with the Black Spotted peeling, and I figured as well that it was from putting it on over top coat. Interesting polish to have, and for a collector like myself, I 'needed' it! Lol.
ReplyDeleteoh my...i can't even....
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing, Sarah!! So many love!
Thats amazing! Looks pretty funky pre-spotted too, love the colours!
ReplyDeleteToo bad you didn't like it as much, in pictures this is a crazy awesome manicure! Spotted was still easily available here (in Holland) and I think I can still walk in the store and get some. But I already have a bottle haha.
ReplyDeleteWow both of these are amazing!
ReplyDeleteYou are my nail artist idol. I just always love what you do!!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! I actually prefer this pre-spotted!
ReplyDeleteGosh, this looks amazing, both with and without Spotted on top. I have Spotted as well, but I never managed to get such small "spots".
ReplyDeleteLove it! Thank you for linking to me sweetie! <3 I like yours way more than mine!
ReplyDeletethis is too much pretty!!
ReplyDeletethis is absolutely gorgeous, such a brilliant effect it's so eye catching!
ReplyDeleteLove the colorful base
ReplyDeleteQue coisa mais linda, eu amei super criativo.

Kisses.
I'm not a big fan of Spotted, but with the colorful base, it looks soooo gorgeous! <3
ReplyDeleteI love how you used spotted over that! So colorful!:)
ReplyDeleteI prefer it without spotted, but still gorgeous with!
ReplyDeletecoveting, super coveting right now!
ReplyDeleteThat Black Spotted is at the top of my want list. I have often wondered if I can get the same effect by sponging on oil with a coarse sponge and then sponging on polish, but have never had the courage to try.
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! These nail polishes are all gorgeous! They all look so elegant and classy. Love the color combos and design.
ReplyDeletethese are absolutely beautiful! you've managed to make me want to use my still untouched bottle of spotted! although the more abstract(ish) before spotted pics are amazing as well! <3
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks so cool! I will have to give my Spotted another chance ;) It was also easily available here in Poland :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome combo! I LOVE your work!
ReplyDeleteSuper cool!
ReplyDeleteyou lucky girl! this is so cool, both before and after the black spotted!
ReplyDeleteI did this mani also a few times, easy but very cool! I got the black spotted at the Sephora store in Holland! It is still availible over there!
ReplyDeletethis is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI got my OPI Black Spotted @ Sephora in Italy, but I admit I haven't seen around in a while... not that it worries me, I can't get myself to love it and I've committed it to a nail polish swap! But I know it had appeared in Italy, for sure. :D
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I prefer your mani before the OPI layer... I absolutely adore this super-easy brushed technique, I learnt it form you and 've repeated it several times already! So cute!
Wow, that is a stunning combo! I know that Opi Black Spotted isn't available anymore, but this is making me want to pick up the new Layla bubble effect polishes...they look similar from the swatches I've seen and so different!
ReplyDeleteI am sooo in love
ReplyDeleteThis is the best manicure with OPI - Spotted that i've seen! Awesome job!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, I prefer the mani without the spotted but they still both look very cool! Did you layer the abstract mani over a particular base colour?
ReplyDeleteWow, I love that effect. Maybe it will come back :)
ReplyDeleteholy craaaaaaappppp this is so amazing
ReplyDeleteAwesome
ReplyDeletewow.love this mani. It is absolutely gorgeous
ReplyDeleteThis is Stunning, by Far One of the Prettiest Mani's I Have Seen in a Long Time!
