Wavelength French Manicure

I'm not one for traditional French manicures. I prefer something colorful, funky, and fun, or, at the very least, out of the ordinary. This is a French manicure that I would wear, and it can be customized with your favorite colors, too! The asymmetrical waves keep things interesting...you can even match them up from nail to nail like I did and create one long wave-ribbon.

There are four nail polishes used in this manicure:
LCN Knitting Wool - This is from the newer Homecoming Collection. The formula is on the thicker side but nicely opaque and still pretty easy to work with. If careful, you could get away with two coats for opacity.
China Glaze Bottoms Up - I really love the color of this opaque bright pink. It works really nicely for nail art!
China Glaze Too Yacht to Handle - Same story here - super bright turquoise and nicely opaque for nail art.
Misa Great Grape - This shade is more of a periwinkle than grape in my eyes, but whatever you call it, I think it's charming! I see it as the grounding element against the bright pink and turquoise.

I used a medium length striper to freehand on the waves. I chose a brush with a bit more thickness than the brushes that I use for my normal detail work, which allowed me to focus on the movement of the stripes rather than the width.

One thing that I would suggest if you are going to try this look is that you make sure each nail is a little different! I love the look of the different peaks and valleys. A little asymmetry goes a long way.

What do you think? I think this is a pretty easygoing design and might work nicely for someone who wants to start getting into nail art but doesn't want to go too crazy right away.

  15. It's different, I'll give you that. I think of this less as a french manicure and more of a wavy design. I think the only thing that distinguishes it as a french mani is that it is located primarily on the tips, which I guess is the definition of a french manicure but... I don't know. I think I'm just used to seeing very clear lines on french manis, so I see this more of a design located primarily on the tips which could be extended to the cuticle.

It's very cute though. I have a base color that's similar so I might try it out :)

  19. I love the colors but I think they would look nicer if the waves were the same. It looks like mistakes were made when polishing them. Just my thoughts!
