I thought about the theme for this challenge for a while. I really wanted it to be something simple, that a nail artist of any skill level would feel comfortable executing and submitting. I think I have come up with a fun solution, that will still let your guys' creativity run wild and free. The theme for this nail art challenge is...
THE DOTTING TOOL!
By that I mean I want all you to create your nail art designs using only the humble dotting tool. No nail art brushes allowed (though the brushes that come with the polish bottles do count)!
Don't have a dotting tool? That's no excuse! Be creative -- use the tip of a bobby pin or the end of a sewing pin instead!

Here are the rules:
- Only one entry per person, please.
- You must do these designs on your own nails.
- Your design must use a dotting tool of some kind.
- You can use the brush that comes with your polish to aid in your design.
- Stamping is discouraged but not prohibited. I really want this to be about the dotting tool and its possibilities!
- You may not use acrylic paint for your design.
- You may not use nail art brushes for your design.
- Your design does not have to be a new design.
- You must submit your designs through the Inlinkz tool at the end of this post between now and Monday, March 5th.
- This contest is open internationally, excluding Italy (Llarowe does not ship there).
Here's how it will be judged:
Submissions will be judged on creativity, originality, and execution. Submissions will be judged by a panel of non-participating bloggers and myself. The panel will be chosen by me (Sarah). All judging decisions are final, and will be made at the discretion of the judging panel.

Here's how you do it:
- Get inspired by the possibilities, and then do your nails!
- Take photos of your nails, and then post them on your blog or on a free online photo host like Picasa, Photobucket, or Flickr. If you have a blog, this is a great opportunity to get some exposure! Links back to this contest are greatly appreciated but not required.
- Click the button at the end of this post to add your entry. Fill out the required fields, including the URL where us judges can find your entry, and submit it.
On to the fun stuff. THE PRIZES!
Two runners up will receive a surprise package put together by me, valued at $10 each!
If you have questions please leave them in the comments. I will do my best to respond to them in a timely manner. Ready, set, go!

dotting tools are the ones things i have!
ReplyDeleteThen I better see an entry from you, Des!
Deletei'm thinking about it! i actually think i know which mani i wanna try! :)
DeleteThis sounds like fun!!
ReplyDeleteSound like fun! I hope I can come up with something :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so stoked, I'll have to see what I can come up with..
ReplyDelete:( what's wrong with my country? :(
ReplyDeleteItaly is restricted because Llarowe does not ship there. So sorry :(
DeleteYou could enter though if you could find someone willing to accept your order and redirect the package to you.
DeleteCan you have more than one submission of different designs?
ReplyDeleteGood question - I have amended the rules to reflect that I'd like to see one entry per person, please! Just pick whichever one you think is best!
DeleteI already do pretty much everything with the dotters as I have no fancy schmancy brushes! lol I'm in!
ReplyDeleteNiiice! This one should be fun!
ReplyDeleteQuick question: May we submit a blog entry we have already written prior to this contest's posting?
Yes, you can submit an old blog post.
DeleteThanks for the info, and the contest. I've spread the word through a few outlets. I'm excited to see what girls come up with, and possibly use some as inspiration for future designs! Everyone wins!
DeleteI have a dotting tool but it's the one from Sally's Beauty Supply but it's the one with the brush and the tiny dotting tool on the other side. But i'm entering!
ReplyDeleteNow would be an excellent time to figure out where the hell my dotting tools are! :D
ReplyDeleteAre we allowed to use toothpicks if we don't own any dotting tools? I know many people also use them in place of nail art brushes to 'fill in' designs so just wanted to confirm whether they would be allowed to use :) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYou can use anything that would be used in the same capacity as a dotting tool.
DeleteWhoohoo i have one that i did using a dotting tool for the majority and a toothpick for the smaller details :D
DeleteSounds like a lot of fun! Count me in :D.
ReplyDeletethis is awesome! can we use accents like rhinestones in our designs as well?
ReplyDeleteYep accents are fine!
DeleteOMG! What a great idea for a contest. I can't wait to come up with my entry :)
ReplyDeletei have so many ideas.. ill need to do a skittles hehe
ReplyDeletelove the contest idea! submitted mine!
ReplyDeleteIs this open internationally? because I really want to enter!!
ReplyDeleteIt mentions in the post that this is open internationally, excluding Italy, because Llarowe does not ship there.
DeleteOh silly me, sorry about that! Thanks :)
ReplyDeletehey i put this link on my sidebar for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks Danielle!
DeleteI entered and posted a link on my blog and my twitter!! Great blog and competition!
ReplyDeleteHad to think about what I would do for this for a bit. I don't have any dotting tools so it was toothpicks and needles for me!
ReplyDeleteyay! this is such a fun contest, and I love that its a dotting tool because I can acrually use one lol. yay! Im already entered, btw the way to enter is very easy and very cool!
ReplyDeleteOh boy I have a good idea, I just hope I can make it work <3 yay!
ReplyDeleteSo much fun! And I have an idea! Will develop it after Tuesday's Mardi Gras mani is off!
ReplyDeleteLove the corn (#3) and the cupcakes (#16) the best so far! But they are all cool!
I am not sure if someone already posted this but #19, 9, and 5 do not work. 5 just goes to her blog it isn't a direct link to the post. Just thought I would let you know!
ReplyDelete19 works for me
DeleteI'm so entering this! :) Just did my nails and I can't wait for daylight and hopefully a nice weather to take pics. :) I really like the idea of this nail art contest, everyone know how to use a dotting tool. <3
ReplyDeleteIf I have submitted a design but I come up with a better one before the deadline. Can I replace my submission? :D
ReplyDeleteSure! I am fairly certain that Inlinkz lets you delete your own entries but if you have any trouble, just let me know and I'll help you out.
DeleteWhen someone submits a design there is a red "x" next to the thumbnail visible only to the owner. Clicking on that deletes the entry.
DeleteHi Sarah,
ReplyDeleteCan we submit more than one entry? Or is it one entry per person?
Thanks a mill!
Hi Taryn -- As it says in the rules, only one entry per person, please!
DeleteOops sorry! Blonde moment! I read it 3 times and kept missing that bit ;)
DeleteWhat a nice contest and a great way to get inspired :) Entered with an older mani, this contest reminded me that I use my dotting tools way to little!
ReplyDeleteCan we use tape to do our nail art?
ReplyDeleteTape is allowed but discouraged. Make sure your entry really fits the theme of being inspired by the dotting tool.
DeleteI'm finally whittling down my ideas to just one. I love contests like this because they give me so many ideas!
ReplyDeleteOMG, this contest is awesome!!. But I have one question, Llarowe ships to Argentina? I just wanna be sure. :)
ReplyDeleteHer website says that she ships internationally excluding Italy, so you should be good to go!
DeleteThat's great so I'm in! :) Thanks for replying :D
DeleteHi Sarah! Just wondering. If there are more than one of us on the blog, is it possible to submit one design from each and link back to the same blog (different post)?
ReplyDeleteWe're still considering whether we're both participating ;p
Yep, that's fine!
DeleteWhat a fun contest! :D And there are so many great entries :) Good luck ladies and thanks Sarah for hosting this ;)
ReplyDeleteLoved entering and browsing some of the amazing entries!! Great competition :)
ReplyDeleteI love seeing all the talent and I found many more blogs to follow because of this competition! Great theme Sarah!
ReplyDeleteI agree, great idea! Stunning designs by very creative people.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to say I messed up on my entry so Im going to be redoing it but I dont know how to delete my old entry. I dont want you to think Im cheating.
ReplyDeleteThere should be a Red X next to your entry. CLicking it will delete your old entry, and you should be able to upload a new entry. :-)
DeleteI tried that and i dont see it.
DeleteI did polka dot nails on my daughter today because she was totally hooked after seeing the ones Jessica from What I Wore did. I can't enter my link in the contest because it's not done on my nails, but you can check it out here if you like: http://www.pinkchaistyle.com/2012/02/25/saturday-night-fever-featuring-mini-me/
ReplyDeleteGood Luck contestants!
Raj
This is a great contest. There a lot of nail artists that don't have brushes so it nice to see all of the designs that can be created without them. In the past month I was coming up with designs you could do with just the nail brush & no tools & still look great. I love this idea.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to everyone.
I wouldn't want to have your job of picking one of these many amazing designs =) Good luck ladies!
ReplyDeleteWhere did the button at the end of this post go? I want to submit!
ReplyDeleteIt's still there, it says "Add Your Link." If it isn't working try using a different internet browser.

ReplyDeleteThis nail art contest with dotting tool theme is a great idea! :-)
DeleteI'm from Italy and I read in your post that Llarowe doesn't ship to Italy, but in one of your comments I also read that bloggers from Italy could enter if they could find someone willing to accept their order and redirect the package to them.
I have my cousin who lives in Slovenia and is willing to accept my order, so I entered... :-)
Good luck to everybody! :-)
ACK! All of these are amazing! And of course, versions of all the design ideas I came up with have been submitted, and it's not my style to be a copy cat!!! Soooo, if you're looking for another judge on the panel, I'd love to help out!!!!!
ReplyDeletewelp, i entered. blahhhh. 153 :)
ReplyDeletei'm having trouble uploading!
ReplyDeleteKelli, I replied to your Tumblr message, so please check that.
DeleteWhew! Was waiting til the last minute so my broken pointer nail could grow out as much as possible. Had this idea the whole time--submitting as soon as I can find the button you were talking about >.>
ReplyDeleteJust entered my first ever nail art contest! Seems to be so many really great designs. Good luck everyone!
ReplyDeleteWow! I just enter, this contest is really new for me :)
ReplyDeleteIt says: "Submissions will close Monday March 5th at 7:30pm." What time zone would that be in?
ReplyDeleteI THINK that it's MST but if you look below the "Add your link" button at the end of the entries, it gives you a live countdown of the hours left.
DeleteOh! I see that now! Thank you so much. :)
Deletehey! Sarah
ReplyDeleteCan i use my old nail design from my blog or i have to make new design for this contest ?
Old designs are fine.
DeleteAs a nail-polish-newbie, I have been following your contest entries - WOW! Very inspiring to say the least. Good luck everyone! (and to the judges - this will be hard!) I haven't worn a nail art design just yet - have only played with the idea just before I take off the polish. Only last week, do I feel I have enough polishes to make combinations. But - these entries give me the courage to try one real soon. Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog site - I CAN'T STAY AWAY!! I really appreciate the quality photos too (another hobby of mine). Hope to enter your next contest. :-]
I used a free trial and I just realized it expired D:
