Last Sunday, All Lacquered Up, The PolishAholic and I hosted our first #NailGlossip Twitter Chat, and it went swimmingly. Since that was the night of the Golden Globes, we had a bunch of people show up to chat red carpet nails: what we liked, what we didn't, what we'd like to see more of.
I mentioned that I would love to see more celebs rocking nail art matched to their outfits. For example, an actress wearing a dress with lace details could wear lace nail art, as well! We were challenged to create nail art inspired by red carpet fashion, and I just couldn't get my mind off of Emma Watson's unique Dior ensemble. Read on for the details, and be sure to check out All Lacquered Up's manicure inspired by Mila Kunis' dress and The PolishAholic's nail art inspired by Ashley Madekwe's afterparty dress.
If you watched the red carpet, there was no denying that Emma Watson had one of the more unique outfits. Her coral red Dior Couture gown was open in the back (save for one band connecting both sides) and showed off a pair of gorgeous tailored black pants. I loved the amount of skin it showed, and the bright color with the black pants to ground it made a perfect balance.
I tried to loosely interpret the spirit of the fashion while still making it work well for nail art. I began with three coats of Sally Hansen CSM in Almost Almond. This shade is a sheer YNBB "Your Nails But Better" look, which made it a great stand in for Emma's exposed back.
Then, I painted two black stripes on each nail to represent the pants. I still struggle a bit with painting horizontal stripes on the curved surface of my nail, but I am happy with the way they came out!
Finally, I used Sally Hansen CSM in All Fired Up and a small nail art brush to paint blocks of red on either side of the striped areas. I connected the two blocks with a wide band to mimic the band across Emma's back.
Did you watch the Golden Globes? Were there any standout fashion moments for you?
