31DC2013 Day 18: Lace Half Moons

I don't often find myself wearing a half moon manicure... In fact, this challenge is one of the few times that I actually do half moons during the year! In person, I find that they look kind of strange with my square nails, but then when I look at these pictures, I really like the effect!

I've been doing a lot of colorful and dark manicures for this challenge, so I thought that this would be a nice time to do something a little softer and sweeter.

I began with a base of three coats of OPI Don't Burst My Bubble. This is my favorite of the sheer, jellylike OPI shades, it's so clean and delicate!

After letting the base dry completely, I used hole punch reinforcement stickers to block off the moon areas. If you've never done a half moon manicure with the reinforcements before, you can find some tips in my half moon post from 2011!

Then, I painted some freehand white lace accents using Zoya Purity. I did the three thick stripes first, and then added the small scalloped edges second. This effect was actually SUPER quick for me to do! I think the key is using your most opaque white polish so you don't have to go over the lines twice.

Wouldn't these be great bridal nails? It's not often that I do something that is wedding appropriate but I really enjoy the way this came out!

I definitely need to bring half moons back into my rotation. Maybe wearing them more often will get me used to the way they look with my square nails!

  1. I love it - so delicate and ladylike :)

  2. Wow, I really liked this, it's simple but yet very elegant an would definitely work as bridal nails! :D Great work with this, saving this in my pinterest for later! :D

  3. Oh well this is cute! I like it a lot.

  4. Loved the design... beautiful work

  5. Lovely design! :)

  6. Beautiful freehand, and yes, they would be lovely bridal nails.

  7. They look so lovely and feminine! I don't think the half-moon with square nails looks strange at all. Wonderful freehand, by the way =)

  8. Nice - really soft and lady-like - would love to see it with a shinny, clear top coat on it as well.

  9. Hi beachgal! Thanks and I'm glad you like the nail art. I see you're still upset about the shine (or lack thereof) on my photos. Unfortunately, I have no plans to change my photos anytime soon. As I mentioned before, I like that there is a slight shine to them, but not so much that it distracts from the nail art. This blog is all about nail art and I will always put that ahead of the shine. I hope you can understand!

  10. I think I just don't wear half moons enough to get used to them! :)

  11. It looks intricate but when you explain how you did it... it actually does sound easy! Cool!

  12. I like these! I love how the Don't Burst My Bubble looks, but I'm lazy and hate doing three coats of a base.

  13. Half moons look great on you! Love the lace!

  14. This is so beautiful an elegant!
