This Halloween season, why let your body have all the fun dressing up in costume? I say costume your nails, too!
These nails were inspired by Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. I'm sure you're all familiar, but I'm gonna go ahead and explain it anyway... the blue gingham was inspired by her dress, and the red glitter nails were inspired by the all-important ruby slippers.
I used Wet N Wild Color Icon Rockin' Rubies for the red glitter. I believe that I used three coats? But I know what you're thinking. You're thinking that I should have used China Glaze Ruby Pumps. This is the prime opportunity, yeah? Well unfortunately I don't own it. Cue sad trombone.
The gingham was painted on freehand using OPI What's With the Cattitude for the lighter color and China Glaze Sky High-top for the darker intersection areas. My white of choice for the base was OPI Alpine Snow.
For some reason, I always have trouble doing horizontal stripes on my nails. Something about the curve of my nail or the stiffness of my brush makes it really difficult for me. They never seem to go on straight and usually get thicker at one end than at the other.
HOWEVER, this time I tried to take it really slow and they turned out pretty good from the get go. I only had to do a little bit of correcting!
I think this manicure would be a great way for a beginner to practice their striping skills. The end effect is simple and cute, and most lacquer addicts could probably replace these colors with items they already had in their stash.
There's no place like home!
I love them! What a cute idea.
ReplyDeleteSo cute!
ReplyDeleteOMG! So so so so cool. I love this so much.
ReplyDeleteSooo beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh, love! Come check my blog? I'm doing the 31-day challenge and just did "inspired by a movie" a couple of posts ago, I did Wizard of Oz too :D the gingham didn't come out as nicely as yours though. x
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem with horizontal stripes. My nails are really curved though :( But these are absolutely adorable!!
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable.! I went as Dorothy a couple of years ago to my office Halloween party. This year I don't feel like dressing up but decided to do "costume nails" instead. And I have the same issues with stripes- I think it's the curve of my nails as well.
ReplyDeleteI can't do horizontal stripes either. Yours look super awesome though. :D
ReplyDeleteLove it! Wizard of Oz always makes me cry for some reason, but your mani made me smile :)
ReplyDeleteOMG this is absolutely fantastic! I would have thought doing a gingham pattern would be very complicated, I love how you've done it :) Thank you so much for sharing

I'm super pleased that you did a happy design instead of a horror or scary Halloween nail design.
Just perfect! I love it. :)

ReplyDeleteFabulous, the two color blues look amazing!
ReplyDeleteReally cool idea. I love it.
ReplyDeleteAdorable!
ReplyDeleteI already love gingham nails, so the addition of the ruby slippers was just pure awesome.
ReplyDeleteLove Dorothy. The ruby red slipper nails are fantastic! You said you took your time with doing the stripes (and it def paid off), how long did it actually take to complete?
ReplyDeleteI love how this came out, looks really pretty! And I might need to rewatch The Wizard Of Oz now ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!
ReplyDeletebrilliant idea, the look so cute and i love the red polish :)
ReplyDeleteI thought the plaid was a stamp! Your freeman work amazes me every time I see it. Do you do both of your hands with the same designs?
ReplyDeleteIf it's something simple like this, yes! If it's a more intricate design, I will often just do a simplified version on my right hand.
DeleteYou are awesome. I am SO doing this for work. I work at an elementary school, and I'm going to dress up as Dorothy. I am totally doing my nails like this! (Except I would never be able to freehand it, so I'll just try to stamp it). Thanks!
ReplyDeleteloved it! beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWonderful nail art! Makes me all bubbly inside! I'll definitely have to try this one. The gingham nails are stunning.
