OPI Muppets Most Wanted Collection Swatches and Review
OPI's annual Soft Shades collection for spring 2014 is dedicated to The Muppets, who have a new movie coming out this month called Muppets Most Wanted. Without getting into too much detail, the caper is a European adventure complete with mistaken identity, love, and crime! The polish collection consists of eight lacquers including some surprises like shredded glitter, duochromes, and a dash of texture. Read on for swatches and my thoughts.
OPI Chillin' Like a Villain is a peach toned nude shade. It has the signature OPI soft shade finish to it, which is part creme, part jelly. I loved the way this one looked on me! Super flattering with my skin tone. It did apply a little streaky, but evened out okay after three coats. Just be sure to use a light hand when applying coats and don't overwork them.
OPI Gaining Mole-mentum is a shredded glitter topper. You go OPI! This topper has gold, rose gold, and silver shreds in a clear base. I've applied one coat over Chillin' Like a Villain. It can be a little bumpy to the touch, but topcoat helps to minimize that. I really love this one and am happy to encourage major brands to do awesome things like this.
OPI I Love Applause is another signature soft shade finish. Like Chillin' Like a Villain, this light pink has a soft appearance but can be a little tricky in application. I used three coats here to even things out. Again, use a light touch and don't overwork the polish.
OPI Int'l Crime Caper is a pearlescent shade with pink and blue shimmer. You could wear this alone with two or three coats, but I found it too sheer and unflattering over my *ahem* slightly discolored nails. Ah, the life of a nail blogger. Instead, I layered it over I Love Applause to show the transformative effect. Check out some more layering combos at the end of this Beauty Geeks post, too.
OPI Kermit Me to Speak is a duochromatic shade that shifts from pink to a golden tan. It's pretty unique to my collection and has a nice visible shift. I used three coats here. (By the way, the name is a pun on "permit me to speak," which I didn't realize until my boyfriend connected the dots for me.)
OPI Let's Do Anything We Want is a girly glitter topper with pink and white confetti, smaller white pieces, and large white squares. I've shown one coat over I Love Applause. I think this mix of glitter is girly, interesting, and unique.
OPI Miss Piggy's Big Number is a rich blue metallic with the slightest hint of duochrome to it. It looks rather brush-strokey in the photo here but it actually wasn't that noticeable in person. The shade is so luxe and really helps break up the neutral-ness of the overall collection. Three coats shown.
OPI Muppets World Tour is a glitter topper with a bit of texture mixed in with it. The overall look of this hybrid shade is white, but it does have some colored pieces mixed in. In this first photo I've shown one coat over Miss Piggy's Big Number, which shows the texture a bit better.
Here is Muppets World Tour over Chillin' Like a Villain with a coat of topcoat added.
What do you think of these shades? While they don't really scream Muppets to me, I think there are some really nice things happening here. Some of the more unique lacquers bring the fun element of the Muppets; it's just too bad this collection wasn't slotted for a different time of year (can you imagine a Muppets summer collection of bright cremes?).
OPI's Muppets Most Wanted Collection will be available this month at select salons and beauty supply stores.

I think Miss Piggy's Big Number looks amazing. The rest of them are nice but not something I would buy I think.
ReplyDeleteGahh this is a big money saver collection for me - I only like Gaining mole-mentum :)
ReplyDeleteWow! <3 Love it :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a gorgeous collection! I love the diversity in it
ReplyDeleteNothing reaches out to me which is good for my wallet!
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting for sure that they chose the spring collection to do it... makes me wonder what's going to be happening for summer :) I'm actually surprised that Gaining mole-momentum looked good... from the description I didn't expect it too. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI think the spring release is meant to coincide with the release of the movie, which I believe comes out the 21st. I really like Molementum, too!
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely going to be getting Muppets World Tour and now I'm really loving Let's Do Anything We Want. They are gorgeous colors.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous collection!
ReplyDeleteSome of these look identical to last year's Oz collection.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I want them all! :D
ReplyDeleteOPI's "Gaining Mole-mentum" is PERFECT for prom... who wouldn't want metallic, confetti-like nails? For those of us who are a little manicure-challenged, make sure to check out these great tips:

I'm sorry, this collection doesn't seem AT ALL related to the Muppets. Kermit's color should be GREEN. Miss Piggy's should be PINK. Not impressed.
ReplyDeleteYes, but do keep in mind that OPI has already done a Muppets collection with some of the more traditional colors: http://www.thepolishaholic.com/2011/11/opi-holiday-2011-muppets-collection.html
ReplyDeleteI love Gaining Mole-Mentum! None of these exactly scream "Muppet!" to me but it probably coincides more with the movie than the actual Muppets. Thanks for swatching :)
ReplyDeleteLet's Do Anything We Want is definitely going on my buy list!
ReplyDeleteI love your swatches but these don't do much for me. Kermit me to speak is the only one I find remotely interesting, but the pun... hm.
ReplyDeleteHi darling, love your blog! If you would like to visit mine and follow me via bloglovin I always follow back ;)

Great post, and I agree! I have such a hard time with out of the normal OPI themed polish. They seem to have great names and colors for their normal collections like the San Fransisco and the new Brazilian. But when it comes to movies, its more miss than hit. Like they had colors and then made a collection.
ReplyDeleteA green for Kermit, a dazzling duochrome for Piggy, blue for Gonzo, an orange-y red for Animal even maybe a sand texture for his hair, browns can be tricky, but maybe a brown sparkle for Fozzie. I mean come on! This collection could be anything.
These don't scream muppets to me but I love them. I snagged all but the Kermit one. I have several that look really similar. In general, duochromes aren't my favorite unless they scream "AMAZING!!!", like some of the ones I have from ILNP or KBshimmer.
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't come close to the greatness of the previous Muppets Collection at all. While the soft shades are useful, they should have come out in a mini-collection separate from a lively, springy, and glitzy Muppets collection. The blue is nice, but it should have been dedicated to Gonzo. OPI KNOWS what we want, I don't understand why they don't just give it to us. I felt the same way about the Wizard of OZ collection. When a movie is full of color, excitement, and did I say color? The feel of the movie should be better represented.
ReplyDeletethose are beautiful, i think i want them all..
