Monday Marble

Happy Monday! Today I have a water marble to share with you. This one came about when a Facebook group that I am in decided to do a group marble. It was set that we would all do a marble this weekend, post photos in the group by Sunday, and then post on our blogs on Monday.

At the end of this post, you will find an Inlinkz collection (similar to the one that I used in my dotting tool contest) which will eventually host all of the links to our marbles. If you have a second, make sure to check out their work! :)

For this marble, I started with a base of China Glaze White On White. I wanted the colors of the marble to end up as true to bottle as possible, and the white base helps accomplish that.

Then I marbled together China Glaze High Hopes, China Glaze Four Leaf Clover, and China Glaze First Mate. I am so happy with the way these colors turned out together! It seems kind of vintage to me for some reason.

I had a hell of a time with my ring fingernail. If you'll notice, I was going for a kind of uniform pattern on each nail this time, instead of random patterns like the last time that I did a marble. The problem was that my ring finger kept coming out wrong. It would look nothing like the others and mess the whole manicure up! So I redid that probably 8 times... which was super aggravating. At least I eventually got it to work!

The other thing that I had a lot of trouble with on this manicure was getting the colors to photograph properly. Four Leaf Clover kept looking Tiffany blue, and High Hopes was too orange. I think I finally got the photos to a place where I am pleased with them, but it took a LOT LOT LOT of intensive color correcting of each individual color.

  21. Love this.... I have tried water marbling a few times and get a few to turn out but never all 10. It is reassuring that I am not the only one doing things 8 times to get it right

  23. Your marble is gorgeous! I have done a couple, but I can never get the polish to spread for enough rings. I put in maybe 5-6 drops and then it stops spreading. I'm not sure what the problem is - I am going to try distilled water next time instead of just bottled water, maybe that will help. It sucks because I get a wispy look, which is cool in it's own way, but I really want it to look more like this.

    1. It may be because of the water, but it can also be because of your polishes... some work for marbles, some don't!

  30. I'm glad you mentioned your base color. I wasn't sure if you could do that so I didn't. Now I know. I love the colors. They did make me think retro. I hope I can get as good at marbling as you are.

  32. Best color combo in any water marble I've seen yet! It seems that all the water marbles I've seen use colors that are the same brand. Is that a coincidence, or does it work best that way?

    1. I think it may be a coincidence... I marble with China Glaze right now because I have heard that it is the easiest brand to work with for this technique, but I know of a lot of ladies that mix brands without trouble!

  37. I don't think there is one accurate photo on the web of Four Leaf Clover - it just hates cameras. Great design.

  38. This is just AWESOME!!! I always find it hard to find polishes that actually work for marbling! Great colors :)
