The Sally Hansen #IHeartNailArt Grand Finale 2014

Last week I had the absolute pleasure of attending the second annual Sally Hansen #IHeartNailArt grand finale as a judge! If you'll recall, I judged the competition last year, and was thrilled to return this year and see what this year's competitors would have in store for us all. I arrived at the Refinery Hotel in New York City ready to rock and roll.

I met the contestants: Breasha, Kathleen, Anunya, and Lisa. After some light appetizers and chatting, it was time to start the competition. The four finalists sat down at a long table, armed with tons of polishes and nail art tools, and were given their first prompt: New York City. They had 30 minutes to complete their nail art look inspired by our host city.

Then, my fellow judges and I had the job of scoring their nail art. Besides me, the other judges were Chelsea King from Chelsea Queen, Madeline Poole from MPNails, and Daniella Yacobovsky, co-founder of BaubleBar.

After the scoring was completed, it was time for the second round of nail art. The next theme was "garden party." I was super eager to see what the gals would come up with, as I love a good floral design. Can you believe they did all this work in only 30 minutes, with crowds of people watching them at all times? Talk about pressure!

Once they were finished, we scored their designs and waited anxiously to find out who the winner was. Kathleen was the top scorer in the first round, while Breasha took the second. In the end, it was Kathleen who took home the title of Sally Hansen Nail Art Sweetheart. Congratulations Kathleen!

Of course, I had to do some nail art for the event, too! Here's my look, which used Sally Hansen Earl Grey, Sally Hansen Red Snapper, and Sally Hansen Lightening. It's kind of a bright lights, big city look mixed with a bit of graffiti style.

I had such a blast meeting new friends and seeing the girls' beautiful nail art! A big thanks to Sally Hansen for making nail art a priority and for helping to promote it to the masses.

Disclosure: Travel for the event was provided by Sally Hansen. As a judge, I was compensated to promote the finale, but all opinions are my own.

  2. Sarah, I really enjoyed this post! Thanks for keeping us all up to date on the event. Personally (and I know I'm biased, ha, ha!), I enjoyed your abstract take on the theme the best.
