Besides being pretty familiar with splatters, I really enjoy doing them and love the way the look! I was really excited that the group settled on this theme. Make sure you check the Inlinkz collection at the end of this post to see what the other ladies did!
For this one, I started with a base of OPI Did You Ear About Van Gogh?, which is my favorite nude. Unfortunately, you can't see it at all in this manicure, because my splatters always end up super intense and they take over the whole nail.
Then I did a few splatter rounds of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls (white), OPI Black Onyx (black), and OPI If You Moust, You Moust (pink).
If you are unfamiliar with how to do splatter nails, you can check out the text tutorial I wrote for a Stylelist article featuring my cool-toned splatter! There are also a number of other tutorials out there in the nail blog world, so warm up Google and get a-Googlin'!
Splatters are messy, so if you attempt them, there are a number of guidelines I want to reiterate.
- Cover a LOT of your workspace with wax paper to protect your table. Cover more than you think necessary. Better safe than sorry!
- Tape up the area surrounding your finger to make clean-up easier (just like if you were going to water marble).
- Have cotton swabs and remover ready to clean up the area of your finger right next to your nail.
- Have a small, angled makeup brush and remover ready to clean up the sides of your nails and your cuticles. Splatters often flood cuticles, so be patient!
I showed these nails to my boyfriend Sean, and he jokingly asked me if they were a tribute to Avril Lavigne. I agree that they do look a little "punk rock princess!"
There is something just so cool about splatters. Kind of unpredictable, a bit crazy, but they still take work to pull off! The perfectionist in me rejoices at the opportunity to let loose a bit, but still have control over certain aspects... ;)
Enjoy the rest of your Saturday, and make sure you come back and share with me if you attempt a splatter yourself!
